Sharon

My name is Sharon and I have worked with UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide as a Personal Careworker at Murray Mudge Aged Care in Glenelg for the past 9 years.

Working at Murray Mudge to me means that I feel part of a big family, - staff get on well, they support each other and we all have one goal – looking after our residents the best way we can.

Refurbishments of Murray Mudge have recently been completed and particularly exciting has been the opening of Sea Shell Cove for our residents who suffer from dementia – it provides them with a welcoming and secure place where they can live with respect and dignity.

Layne

My name is Layne and I started work with UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide’s Disability Services in 2003 initially in the role of Support Worker.

In 2005 I was appointed as Senior Support Worker and thus became part of the coordinating and support work team, which is responsible for the overall running of Disability Services.

I enjoy working in my role as Senior Support Worker because we have a Team of very skilled Support Workers that strive to assist individuals with disabilities and special needs to become valued members of the community through the provision of high quality support.

Joseph

My name is Joseph and in my initial role as a family counsellor over the past two years within UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide I found, much to my surprise, an organisation whose dedication to family integrity was not only focused on the clientele but also on the staff themselves - a practice that is not always to be expected. This supportive framework in conjunction with an infrastructure comprising of the most highly efficient human resource and information services departments, reduced the stress often associated with the myriad of duties that can detract from the core purpose of ones roles and responsibilities – in my case assisting families towards reunification.

In recent times, I have been recognized by the organisation for other skills and resources over and above counselling which has led me to the role of Team Manager of Adolescent Services. This has been made possible through generous access to ongoing training - an aspect of UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide that is embedded within its commitment to organisational excellence. All in all nowhere is perfect but after 18 years within the field of community services I must say that my personal experience is that I have rarely encountered such an encouraging environment.

Heather

My name is Heather and for the past 81/2 years I have worked for UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide as a Community Careworker.

I have a family with young children, so flexibility and the ability to balance family and work life are the most important things for me.

UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide provides a family friendly and flexible working environment. The roster is flexible and staff’s availability and requirements are always taken into consideration.

The working environment is very supportive and staff get on well with each other. We have regular staff support meetings and training updates to complement our skills.

I cannot see myself working anywhere else but UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide. In fact I see myself working here until my retirement.

Joumana

I work as a Senior Care Worker for the Arabic Community in the Multicultural Home Support Program. We provide services that respect and utilise the unique strengths, capabilities and cultural backgrounds of our clients.

When I first started with UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide 11 years ago, it was my first real job as I was new to Australia.

Working with an excellent team has assisted me in developing my communications skills which gave me the ability to advocate for my clients.

UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide has and continues to support me all the way with lots of training and give me the opportunity to develop initiative, leadership qualities and good interpersonal skills.
